Steve Harvey Announcing the Wrong Miss Universe Will Give You So Much Secondhand Embarrassment.

Are you in the mood to do some cringing this Monday morning? It’s the best way to work off everything you ate over the weekend, and it wakes you up better than a cup of coffee. This time the source of the cringe comes from the Miss Universe pageant, which aired last night.

No, it’s not because any of the ladies fell over or gave an idiotic answer to an interview question. This time it all had to do with the show’s host Steve Harvey, who announced the wrong winner.

The actual winner of the crown was Miss Philippines, and the first runner-up was Miss Colombia. But Steve mixed them up, announcing Miss Colombia to be the winner. And this wasn’t the kind of situation where he realized his mistake immediately after announcing it and quickly made sure the right woman was crowned. That wouldn’t embarrass everyone involved enough.

So obviously Miss Colombia was crowned and waved to the cheering crowd and received all the fanfare you’d expect a Miss Universe winner to receive… and then Steve sidled up next to her to ruin her dreams. He announced that Miss Philippines was the rightful winner, holding up the announcement card as proof and saying it was his mistake, and we shouldn’t “hold it against the ladies.”

Because obviously everyone’s first thought when the wrong name is announced by the host is that it’s somehow the ladies’ fault.Once the correction was made, Miss Philippines walked to the front of the stage, where she and Colombia proceeded to stand awkwardly next to each other wondering what to do. Finally they made the crown exchange, and Philippines had approximately three seconds of celebration before the show was over. What a magical night!
