South Africa ANC Calls For Political Tolerance

African National Congress (ANC) Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for non-violence during the August third local government elections.

Speaking during the ANC's election campaign trail in Virginia in the Free State, Ramaphosa said political parties are supposed to be campaigning in a way where they tolerate each other, where there should not be violence.

"Of course there is competition amongst political parties at this point in time, but that competition must be done responsibly, must be done without violence, and we must subscribe to the values that are enshrined in our constitution, that of total freedom of association and freedom of speech, freedom of movement."
With the polls due to take place on the third of August, the campaigning period has been overshadowed by violence and destruction of public property in Tshwane and some other areas.

On Wednesday, the Independent Electoral Commission voiced their concern over the eruption of violent protests ahead of the upcoming poll.
